I am Bernhard Wandernoth- Engineer, living in Switzerland, married, two children and I am founder and chairman of the BEE Group AG

“I have always had a fascination for technology. I was able to survive my time in school thanks to my hobbies in electronics and amateur radio, after which I studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in Munich. I then received a doctorate in the area of laser communication systems. My theoretical and practical findings on the topic of highly efficient laser communication systems have since been put to use in the development of a laser terminals for satellites as the first commercial laser-based high speed networks in orbit.

Even though this technology was incredibly fascinating and challenging I then took on the responsibility for the fundamental research at a Swiss investment firm. The objective was to structure many thousand technology companies according to their industries in order to be able to answer questions about competitive rank, strategy, market size, growth potential, among others. Moreover this system provided the information needed for reliable discounted cash flow valuations. Not only well paid, this assignment was highly fascinating again- only I felt at the wrong side of the table at times when listening to the enthusiastic CEOs speaking about their technologies, markets and visions.

When I heard of neurofeedback, it caught my attention. After some research I thought “if only ten percent of the claims in that field hold true, I want to be a part of it”. So, I created a “landscape” of the field, like I was used to as an analyst, and found the Othmers, with their successful companies in California, to be among the leading minds in the field. The engineer tries things out. So, I attended a course, bought me some used equipment and applied neurofeedback to a couple of “guinea pigs”. Indeed the neurofeedback worked; I was even able to make a migraine go away. So, convinced, end of longer story- I took on the responsibility for the development, qualification, and regulatory approvals of the products for this group. What started as almost a garage company became quite a sizable team and group of companies and partners with the central goal of innovation of clinical approaches, models and technologies, driven by curiosity and the desire to contribute to mental health care to improve people’s lives.

Aside from the continued further development of these methods, which are seen as the most effective today, we are exploring new approaches and technologies to make use of the EEG. One important area is to apply complex stimulus presentation and signal processing to create biomarkers as basis for more objective diagnosis of mental health issues as well as personalized treatment recommendations. The goal of all our activities is that as many people as possible can profit from our technology.”
